ATENA 3D contains unique shell/plate elements that significantly enhance the program capabilities for analyze large scale structural problems.

and their combination with 3D solids
Shell/plate elements can reduce nodes with 3 displacements the number of finite elements necessary to analyse complex structures. These elements look like standard quadratic brick elements, but internally they are formulated layered integration points using shell/plate layered formulation. Therefore they can be easily integrated with 3D solid elements in a single numerical model.

Special constrain conditions allows to connect even parts of the model with different finite element sizes.
Large shell/plate elements can be used to analyse parts of the structure subjected mainly to bending.
Columns or critical joints can be modelled in detail using 3D solid elements.
This approach ensures reliable results at a fraction Fire Temperature distribution of computational time.
